The bad, lewd tenant

So the people I rented my house to have apparently rented to other family members. But they smoke (in the house) when they said they didn't at all and the husband...was apparently hauled off to jail last week for not paying a speeding ticket. This is my hard lesson learned in not doing proper background checks and vetting people. And it sucks.

Okay then...plan B.

I don't have a plan B.

Smoking and not paying a parking ticket aren't THAT bad, ha. But too bad about Plan B. I think you should start some sort of 24/7 "Mormon" Big Brother style thing in your house for the internet. Since Mormons are desperate to buy anything with "Mormon" in the title or by Mormons, you'd make a killing just in Utah alone! haha.

You're upset that he smokes and didn't pay a parking ticket? that he probably spent one night in jail over? You have issues...

Was he smoking in the house?

Anonymous...um methinks you have issues. You won't even ID yourself haha. Wouldn't you be worried if you rented to people who lied to you and were thrown in jail?

Steve, true just those two things are understandable as long as there isn't smoking in the house. But they said they didn't smoke or drink when I first met them and that is what worries me. I'm more worried about what I don't know. I mean if I found all that out what else are they hiding? Also they lied on several occassions.

For the record, I am not Mr. Anonymous:). You're discovering one of the things that drove me away from the Church. See, when you join the Church, you have to give up all these things. Sometimes, it means losing family and friends. Sometimes, you slip up with the Word of Wisdom. I biffed on this once or twice. When I went and confessed this, I lost the Sacrament. It really sets you off though when people who tout the "good Mormon" face do this on a regular basis and are dishonest about it. You do your best, slip up, and try to do the right thing, but then you find that people like this are consistently dishonest with themselves and others.

Steve, I sympathize with Sarah here. I imagine she worked very hard to be able to get to afford a house as a single woman. Even if she doesn't live there anymore, she has a right to be angry if the people who live there and rent it are not honest with her.

Update ...ya the whole family ended up moving in and then not paying rent. One of the guys smashed the door. I had to evict them eventually or risk losing this house. I also had to replace the door, carpets, repaint. It was a serious mess. Hard lesson learned.
