Just did a story on SecondLife and am now convinced it is the future of the web. It's like the web, but much more interactive. And you can exchange your linden dollars and turn it into real money. This land developer actually made a million dollars last year just for developing virtual landscapes. If you are on Second Life you should look up my Avatar. I go by Zarah Hykova. And no, I don't pay a monthly fee. You don't have to, either. We can just hang out there and go dancing or shopping or maybe earn enough to make a garden or own our own little shop. I know it sounds like I've been sucked into a nerd vortex, and perhaps I have, but like I always say "don't judge".

I haven't been on the site, but the more I hear about it, the more I think second life is just the beginning of something huge.

a friend of mine at work showed me where you can get all this freebie stuff for your avatar and I've discovered this place that gave me all these designer jeans and I'm almost as happy as I'd be in real life just trying them all on. My character has Harley jeans on right now.

I'm also sporting butterfly wings...I'm so virtual!

Second Life has been around for quite some time. It's just that mainstream media is taking note. I've seen stories on CNN International and BBC, etc., but to me it still seems like a waste of time. Like what is the point. Why would I want to have a make believe me and sit in front of my computer all day (which I do anyways for work and already TOO much spare time) and live my pretend life. I just don't get it. Bah-humbug!!!! :)

It't the addiction part that sounds kinda scarey to me....I wondr how many people "live" there all the time, I'm not judging though, I was just introduced to guitar hero and it's a good thing I don't own it, because I'd live there too often!

i'd be cool if i could live in the woods somewhere and make enough money in 2nd life to survive, but it's probably easier to telecommute to a job in the real world. as for guitar hero, i think i am the worst ever at that game. it's way fun though

so the addiction is wearing off. other than being able to change into different jeans and talk to people at discos there doesn't seem to be much more to it...at least not without paying into the system. I have no idea how to make money in a non-sleazy way on there. But I did find a Peace Garden for members of the Church...however there seemed to be some random anti-Mormon debate going on at the time of my visit...

Ya, life is better in the real world.

Adventures in waiting around

I'm waiting for my next live hit (15 minutes from now). I've been training to go live on the air for the past three days. The first part right after you've got your interview is a bit nerve racking. You've got to put it into your comp, edit down the sound bytes, send your best bytes into the system we use (4 good ones), then write and voice a tease, then write a lead, and of course write your story, and have all the tech stuff (sound levels, etc) good to go before you get on the air. But after all that there's a little down time after the first hour (and so here I am). I'm currently parked out in front of the KSL studios in the truck with my equipment. I took some time a bit earlier to lay down for 5 minutes under a nearby tree on the edge of the parking lot. Hello Again

I've been conspicuosly absent from this site and thought it was high-time you all got an update. This last week's been an incredibly busy one. My series on Polygamy (The Real Big Love) debuted on the Nightside Project . They played it again several times in the morning and pretty much plugged it all day. Some people are talking award-winning. I really enjoyed putting it together, too. I also got to shoot one of my interviewees with an airsoft gun and we had our Nightside one year anniversary since we've officially been on the air. We're marking that celebration with a fun show tonight. We're pretending to pull archived tape of stuff we've done through the decades. I made mine on Who Shot JR. Oh, and one other thing I'm not supposed to mention, but I'll mention to you. They're talking syndication. By the end of the month we'll broadcast the show on our sister stations in Phoenix, Seattle, and (just for you east coasters) WTOP in DC.
