Yo La

Went to Yo La Tengo at The Venue last night. They were pretty good. The girl in the band, the wife of the lead singer, has such a sultry voice. This guy next to me put it really well when he leaned over and said it was like it bleeds through the microphone.

The opening band "Why" is a new fav. The lead was a very friendly, though slightly odd dude from Cincinnati. His brother and his friend from highschool are also in the band. What a pretty sound! The dude next to me was nice enough to buy me a CD just because he really wanted me to like them or something. I bought a tee shirt, it's lavendar.

Oh, ya, splaination would do here. Those dudes are the guys in "Why". The first is the lead, Yoni, and the scruffy, cute guy is the drummer, Doug McDowell. They were very nice. The guy who bought me the cd's was only in town for the weekend and I did not take a picture of him...he offered to buy me a drink and I told him I didn't drink and so he went and got me a bottle of water...and ya, he got my digits...nothing will happen, but well, I sorta was feeling really flattered cuz he was pretty hot.

WHy are non member guys often so much better at flattery than mormon guys?

best guess is Mo boys are surrounded by beautiful, accomplished women with plates of cookies knocking on the door of their apartment. They do not HAVE to flatter us because there are already plenty of us vying for their attention-especially in Provo. Non-Mo's don't have it that nice. But my track record for non-mo's asking me out is a lot stronger lately. That's three in the past two weeks. but my roommates chiropractor says it's because I'm just myself around them because I'm not thinking anything is going to happen. Don't know if that's true, but it is a lot easier figuring out if a non-mo is interested.

Good insight on the part of your roomate. Probably true...So how can you act yourself around MO guys?

i've found that it is cake to act like yourself around everyone when you already have a boyfriend but he happens to not be present. so maybe try this: get a non-mo boy with your self esteem and madd skills, get pretty secure in the relationship, then still hang out with the mo's and you will be unafraid and can catch the interest of one of the rare breed of cute, cool, fun, smart, non-jaded, self aware, happy (!) mo boys. the trick is you can't fall in love with the non-mo. and somehow you should avoid being a total jerk.

this is a terrible, terrible, terrible idea.

the drummer is cute, tho.

oh rats...i was gonna take a plate of sliced citrus to the next-doors (female). i'm not trying to attract their affection, just be a friend...but with this talk of cookie-knocking, it would be way cooler if i had actually done it. i didn't have time, i swear. i did make 'happy week' signs for my roommates though - at the next-doors' for fhe.
