The Guitar at the End of the Earth

Just read the most fascinating article in the Times today about a music festival in Essakane,Mali.

As I was reading I kept thinking back to a project I worked on with Radio Expeditions at NPR on the Timbuktu salt trade, and how it was dying out because of motorized vehicles and modernization.

The piece is well written and I think I know where I want to go on vacation next year.

That would be a great vacation...do you take vacations every summer?

Ummm, maybe. Depends on where I'm going. The Mali Music Fest is actually in January. I wouldn't do it this next Jan, but maybe the year after that.
